AMAPCEO Secondary School Essay Contest

AMAPCEO is inviting Ontario secondary students to submit an essay on the value of public service for our Second Annual Essay Contest.

Topics:
All submissions must address the theme of the “Value of Public Service” which might include one or more of the following questions:  

  • Why is public service important to you?
  • What would you do to improve and protect public service in Ontario?
  • Is it worth preserving – why or why not?

 
Eligibility:
All secondary school students who have been enrolled on a full-time basis since at least September 2011 in the province of Ontario and who intend to pursue a post-secondary degree or diploma are eligible to enter this competition.

Prizes:
One grand prize of $750 will be awarded the student whose work is judged to be the best by a panel of judges.  

First Prize: $750
Second Prize: $500
Third Prize: $300


The winning entry may be published in whole, or in part by AMAPCEO. The three winning students will be asked to participate in an award presentation of AMAPCEO’s choosing.

Submission Deadline: Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:59 p.m.


To be considered, all essays must be received by the submission deadline.  Essays and questions should be sent to Liza Papanikolaou at essaycontest@amapceo.on.ca in .doc, .rtf or .pdf format. Please write, "AMAPCEO Essay Contest" in the subject line. One entry per student please.

Requirements:
All submissions must:  

  • Be original work created by the contestant (except for properly cited material from other sources), 1,250 to 1,500 words in length, written in English or French, double-spaced in a 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font, excluding all identifying information (e.g., name, school, etc.) from all pages except the cover page.
  • Cite at least three different sources, excluding Wikipedia.  
  • Use one established method, of the writer’s choosing, for citations and bibliographical references (e.g., APA, MLA, etc.).
  • Include a cover page with: writer’s name, school, word count, essay title and date of submission.  
  • Include proof of full-time enrollment at an Ontario secondary school (could include a class schedule, report card, letter from teacher/principal or other documentation).  

 
Any contestant who does not comply with the above terms or meet the eligibility criteria may be disqualified at the sole discretion of AMAPCEO.  

Winners will be announced by the end of June.
