Thursday, December 01, 2011

AMAPCEO submitted a brief to the Commission on the Reform of Ontario’s Public Services in a hearing that was held on Thursday, December 1st, 2011.  To read the AMAPCEO submission, please click here.

The AMAPCEO delegation was headed by President Gary Gannage and included Association Secretary Barbara Gough, Executive Assistant Anthony Schein and Labour Relations Officer Jennifer Sherwood.

Gannage believes “we had a good exchange of views with the Commission” during the one-hour hearing.  The AMAPCEO brief covered a number of issues, including AMAPCEO’s strong track record of generating creative ideas to modernize the Ontario Public Service; compensation developments in the OPS and the Broader Public Sector; our joint Job Evaluation Program as a means of promoting efficiency and effectiveness; and our desire to achieve excellence in public service.

The Commission is chaired by Don Drummond, a former chief economist at TD Bank and a former federal Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, and includes three other members: Dominic Giroux, President of Laurentian University; Susan Pigott, Vice-President Communications at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health; and Carol Stephenson,  Dean of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Announced by Finance Minister Dwight Duncan in the March 2011 provincial budget, the Commission has a mandate to “provide advice on how to deliver the most efficient and effective public services possible for people and families”. It is expected to present a report to the government in January.
