OPS Benefit Changes Effective April 1, 2010

Just a reminder for AMAPCEO-represented employees in the OPS Bargaining Unit that, effective April 1, 2010, the Employer will pay the full cost of premiums for Long-Term Income Protection (LTIP), vision and hearing coverage.  These changes were negotiated in last year’s round of collective bargaining and the savings will start to appear on payroll deposits on April 15,2010.  A summary of the changes appears below.

Premium changes (i.e. no premium deductions) will commence with the April 15/10 pay. 

 

Monthly Premium Saving for Regular Employees

Vision and Hearing Premium Savings:

  • $2.46 single coverage
  • $5.22 family coverage


Long-Term Income Protection (LTIP) Premium Savings

  • 0.19% of salary; an average of about $12.00

 

Enrollment Changes for Regular & Regular Part-time Employees

Vision & Hearing Coverage remains an optional part of the Supplementary Health & Hospitalization Plan, but enrollment is now automatic for all regular employees and regular part-time employees (based on their current single or family coverage).  

Employees on unpaid leave on April 1, 2010 will automatically be enrolled on their return when group plans are reinstated.

New hires are automatically enrolled.

Employees may opt out of vision and hearing coverage if they desire.

*Pro-rated premiums for regular part-time employees continue based on the closest percentage that their hours of work bear to full-time employment, e.g. 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% or 80%.
